Jose Mourinho urged to follow Manchester United's lead with ideal Tottenham signing

Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged Jose Mourinho to follow Manchester United's lead in the transfer market to bolster his defensive options.

The Lilywhites are at risk of losing both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen for free next summer when their contracts in North London come to a close, which could leave them short of options.

While that could be a cause for concern, Robinson believes he has identified the perfect solution for Mourinho as he has identified Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings as the ideal target.

“If he has had a conversation with Daniel Levy and he has got some money, I would love to see Jose just go and buy Tyrone Mings, the same as Manchester United did with Harry Maguire," he told Sky Sports.

"I think somebody like Tyrone Mings would fit in perfectly in with the Tottenham side and be exactly what they need.”

Mings made his international debut for England in October following an impressive start to life in the Premier League with Villa, building upon his fine form on loan at the club in the Championship last term.

The 26-year-old was widely praised during his debut against Bulgaria after dealing with difficult circumstances, where he and other members of the Three Lions squad were racially abused by some sections of the home fans.

Luring him away from Dean Smith's side could prove to be a difficult ask though, as Villa consider him to be an integral part of their project and bid to retain their top-flight status.
