Jose Mourinho 'turns down Lyon' as former Manchester United boss wants return to England

Jose Mourinho has turned down the opportunity to become new Lyon boss, according to a report.

The Ligue 1 giants sacked former manager Sylvinho on Monday after just five months in the role and have moved quickly in their hunt for his successor.

However, it appears Mourinho has his eye on other opportunities.

French outlet RMC report Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas contacted the Portuguese only for the offer to be declined.

It's reported the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss prefers a return to England, where his family still live.

Ex-PSG manager Laurent Blanc is currently favourite for the role.

Meanwhile, Sylvinho's departure could play into the hands of Moussa Dembele .

The striker returned to his homeland from Celtic in summer 2018 and his reputation across Europe continued to grow following an impressive debut season.

This term, however, he's found himself battling with team-mate Memphis Depay, who has insisted he become the team's main striker.

Sylvinho had been indulging Depay's wish before his departure at the expense of Dembele.

The 23-year-old will hope that particular slate is wiped clean when a new boss is appointed.

The forward has long been on Man United's radar and the Premier League giants, currently enduring their worst start to a season in 30 years, have laid the groundwork ahead of a potential January move.
