Chris Hughton insists Jose Mourinho did not produce 'a masterclass' to inspire Tottenham's win over Manchester City on Sunday.
City were beaten 2-0 in London, as goals from Steven Bergwijn and Son Heung-min secured all three points for the hosts.
Blues midfielder Ilkay Gundogan missed a first-half penalty and the team spurned several gilt-edged chances to score, with Sergio Aguero uncharacteristically wasteful in front of goal.
The Premier League champions were made to pay in the second half as Oleksandr Zinchenko saw red for a second booking before Bergwijn's and Son's goals.
When asked if Mourinho had delivered a typical 'masterclass' performance, Hughton told Sky Sports: "In some ways, only because he’s got the result and ultimately it’s the result that matters.
"Spurs rode their luck, and on an average day, they put those chances away. But it’s about the result and how you get the result.
"You’ll have one extremely happy changing room, and one extremely disappointed one. We’ve seen them in the past, but that wasn’t a masterclass."
Jermaine Jenas agreed with Hughton's verdict as he wrote in his BBC column: "The statistics behind Tottenham's win on Sunday might suggest it was another Jose Mourinho masterclass. In reality it was more a story of Manchester City's missed chances.
"Yes, in the early stages Spurs looked quite solid and strong, which is the way Mourinho likes to set his sides up in these big games, but City did what they always do and broke them down.
"Spurs showed character and hung in there thanks to a couple of big moments - the biggest one being Hugo Lloris' first-half penalty save, which is when they might have started believing this could be their day.
"But if City were anything like as clinical in front of goal as they usually are, they would have put the game to bed long before Steven Bergwijn put Tottenham ahead with their first shot at goal after 63 minutes."
