Jose Mourinho told Serge Aurier he was afraid of his s*** defending at Tottenham

Jose Mourinho told Serge Aurier before his second game in charge of Tottenham that he was afraid of the full-back giving away a "s*** penalty with VAR".

Just over a year later and exactly that has happened.

Spurs put in a dismal performance against Leicester who won the clash in north London 2-0.

And it was a reckless mistake by Aurier which summed up the day for Mourinho's men. The full-back slammed into the back of Wesley Fofana just before half-time to give the Foxes a penalty.

Craig Pawson checked the foul on the monitor before blowing for a spot kick. Jamie Vardy made no mistake and Spurs found themselves behind at the break.

"I want to be careful what I say about this defender, I’ve been on this road before with him," said Roy Keane at half-time.

"Utter madness. There is no danger, he’s not in on goal, he’s not looking at the ball… an experienced player, madness."

He added: "He doesn’t think, this lad doesn’t think."

It's also something Mourinho was afraid of with the defender - as he admitted when he first joined the club.

Prior to his second match, a Champions League game against Olympiacos, as seen in footage from the Spurs All or Nothing documentary, Mourinho said: "Serge, you are a marker. You speak good English?" Mourinho asked, to which Aurier nodded with confirmation.

"I am afraid of you as a marker. Because you are capable of doing a s*** penalty with VAR. So I am telling you already, I am afraid of you."
