Jose Mourinho has heaped praise upon Dele Alli and identified exactly where he will utilise the England international in his Tottenham squad in the coming months.
The 23-year-old has endured a decline on his goal-scoring return in recent seasons, leaving the former MK Dons man with a point to prove under his new manager.
However, he certainly has the support of Mourinho as the Portuguese boss heaped praise upon the player, while identifying how he will use him in his best position while he is at the club.
"When our friend upstairs gives us a gift, we cannot waste it. For some reason, maybe also physical problems, Dele's last few months were not good enough for the potential he has," he told BT Sport.
"I don’t accept that the boy is not going to be a top player. I hope he understands, even when I'm critical with players, I'm not criticising, I'm coaching. Sometimes to coach players, you have to tell them things that they don't like to listen to.
"A talent like Dele, he has to be a top, top player. This boy also has that extra of arriving in the box in finishing positions, he's tall, he's good in the air, he has to take the best of himself, when the ball is in wide positions, he has to be also in the box as a second man in the box.
"For me, he is a player who has to play as a second striker."
