Jose Mourinho tells Harry Kane what to do next amid Manchester United and Man City transfer interest

Jose Mourinho has urged Harry Kane to think about happiness when choosing where he wants to play next season.

"The goal right now as a player is to win team trophies," Harry Kane admitted in an interview with Gary Neville last month.

Kane's Tottenham endured a difficult 2020/21 campaign, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the second season in a row, while also extending their wait for a trophy to 13 years.

The England captain is disgruntled with the current direction of the club, sparking rumours of a switch to either Manchester City or United in a transfer that would send shockwaves around Europe. The MEN understands City and United would both be interested in signing Kane.

Mourinho, who managed Kane for 17 months at Spurs, hinted he believes the 28-year-old will remain in England.

“I think he has to play where he is happy. And I think he is happy in England. He is a very Premier League guy,” Mourinho told The Sun.

Mourinho has coached several world-class forwards during his managerial career, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Asked if Kane is similar to the likes of Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo, Mourinho said: “Yes but when I work with these guys they were winning titles. It is about legacy. Legacy is about medals. But who knows? In five weeks Harry could be a European champion.”
