Jose Mourinho tells Daniel Levy what he needs to help Tottenham challenge Liverpool and Man City

Jose Mourinho has sent another message to Daniel Levy about Tottenham's future hopes of silverware.

The Portuguese replaced the popular Mauricio Pochettino at the club earlier this season after a poor start to the campaign, with Mourinho described as a 'born winner' and the one to end the club's trophy drought.

Spurs have endured an up and down time since Mourinho came in, with their hopes of Champions League football next season all-but over following a 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United on Thursday.

It was their first defeat since the restart and left them ninth in the Premier League table.

Mourinho sent a clear message to Levy when congratulating Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool for their title triumph ahead of the Sheffield United game, saying it was a case of supporting the manager not only in his first season, but in his second, third and fourth as well.

And Mourinho explained the one thing that he needed to get to Liverpool and Manchester City's level.

"Time. Only time," he admitted.

"One of the most difficult things in football is exactly that, to change mentalities. It's to change state of mind. It's to change the team's soul. It's one of the most difficult things in football.

"Sometimes you have incredible luck to have a majority of players adapted to these needs and some other times you have incredible players but the psychological profile is different or was built in a different direction.

"So only time can do it. You have a recent example of the new champions and you know what the process to build the team is."
