Jose Mourinho takes sneaky Steven Gerrard dig as Rangers boss sent Liverpool heartbreak reminder

Jose Mourinho has taken a brutal swipe at Steven Gerrard on Instagram by reminding the Liverpool legend of one of his darkest Anfield moments.

April 27 marks the seven-year anniversary of Gerrard's infamous 'slip' that eventually cost Brendan Rodgers' Reds the Premier League title in 2014.

Mourinho was in the Chelsea dugout in Merseyside that day and it was his attritional tactics that led the Blues to a famous 2-0 win.

Now the manager of Scottish champions Rangers, Gerrard has long put the misery of that day behind him.

But Mourinho has taken to his official Instagram account to make sure it's an anniversary he won't overlook.

The Portuguese boss, fresh out of work after leaving Tottenham, posted a picture of him keeping the ball from Gerrard as he rushed to get it back in play.

The caption reads: "Anfield, April 27th 2014. Ball possession."

Mourinho was linked with the vacant post at Celtic last week and fans have salivated at the thought of their rivalry being rekindled in Glasgow.

But Eddie Howe remains the clear favourite for the Parkhead post while Lucien Favre, Enzo Maresca, Chris Wilder and Jesse Marsch are still in the frame.
