Jose Mourinho is still trying to find the answer to his Giovani Lo Celso conundrum almost 18 months on from taking on the Tottenham job.
Playing in a couple of different positions for Mauricio Pochettino after injury restricted him to only eight games before his fellow countryman was dismissed in November 2019, Lo Celso has again played all across midfield for the current boss.
Versatility is definitely a good thing for a player but it hasn't exactly helped out the classy star in terms of nailing down a permanent role in the team.
Since returning from the hamstring injury that left him on the sidelines for three months, Lo Celso has played as an attacking midfielder and also on the right flank when Mourinho decided to change things about and go with a 4-4-2 formation.
It remains to be seen how Spurs will line up at Everton on Friday evening and where Lo Celso will operate if he does indeed get the nod for the fourth successive game.
Finding his best position in the team is only going to benefit the Rosario-born player in the long run and all will be hoping he manages to stay clear of injury to show Mourinho where exactly he should operate in for Tottenham.
So where is his best position in midfield for Spurs? football.london takes a look at four different positions.
In a midfield two
Lo Celso is a central midfielder by trade and we've seen him play in this position a number of times during his two years at the club.
Good on the ball and also getting it forward to get Spurs playing in the final third, the Argentine is also more than capable of doing the dirty work and putting his foot in.
However, the problem at Tottenham is that there is so much competition in central midfield and right now he's behind both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele.
Right now those two are Mourinho's starters and Lo Celso is only likely to play there if the Frenchman is injured or playing in a more advanced role.
More advanced in a midfield three
The season started with Tottenham fans calling for Mourinho to unleash his dream midfield three of Hojbjerg, Ndombele and Lo Celso.
With the Dane sitting and doing a job in front of the back four, it would then allow both Ndombele and Lo Celso to do what they do best by getting on the ball and making things happen in attack.

However, we've rarely seen Mourinho play this way so far this season as he's tended to opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation.
A midfield three does seem like the ideal setup for the head coach to use, especially with two talented players in Ndombele and Lo Celso at the club who are both excellent on the ball and have an eye for a killer pass.
We could yet see this formation at some point between now and the end of the season as Mourinho looks to find his best team to finish the season strongly.
Attacking midfield
This campaign we have mainly seen the 25-year-old utilised in the No.10 role, including on Sunday in the 3-1 home defeat against Manchester United.
Four of his five goals this season have been from attacking midfield, with two of those coming in the 7-2 drubbing of Maccabi Haifa at the start of October.
Lo Celso is someone who can help Tottenham out going forward due to his vision and quality on the ball but he's not a player who is really going to chip in with a number of goals and assists.
The ex-Real Betis man so far has five goals and one assist to his name in 2020/21 after registering two and three respectively in his first year at the club,
A good player for Tottenham to have in the attacking areas of the pitch, ideally they could do with someone there who will get big numbers to lighten the load on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min's shoulders.
On the right
Lo Celso's versatility has seen him play on the right flank in two of the team's last three Premier League games.
Clearly a player Mourinho trusts, the boss decided to play him out wide in a 4-4-2 setup in the recent games at Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
There were some good and bad bits from the player in both games but it was clear to see that he is much better when played in the middle of the park.
Not having the pace of Tottenham stars such as Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn or Son to play on the wing, the Argentine is more of a technical player and has the qualities to open things up in and around the box.
An option to play from the right if needed, all Spurs fans would prefer him to be used centrally as that's where he looks more dangerous.
