Danny Rose will spend the rest of the 2019/20 season on loan at Newcastle United after completing his move to the club on Thursday evening.
The left-back has featured regularly for Tottenham over the course of the season so far but has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho in recent weeks.
The England international has been unable to make the matchday squad and the head coach has instead used youngsters Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon instead as Ben Davies recovers from his ankle injury.
Rose had previously stated prior to Mauricio Pochettino's dismissal that he would be staying at the club until the end of his contract in 2021.
However, he has had to move on given his lack of playing time as he looks to make Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2020.
Asked if Rose has indeed played his final game for Spurs, Mourinho has stated that the most important thing is that he plays football during his time at St James' Park and then a decision will be made between both parties once he returns.
"This season, yes," said Mourinho at his pre-match press conference. "He has a contract with us, so of course we are in control, we just hope that he plays, he plays very well and then of course the club will decide with him the best for the club and the best for him.
"It is very, very important what is best for the players and what I understand in the time I am here is that this club cares with people.
"In the end of the season the best decision will be made with Danny's agreement."
