Jose Mourinho shown yellow card after approaching Southampton bench in Tottenham clash

Jose Mourinho was shown a yellow card during Tottenham's defeat to Southampton after entering the opposition technical area.

Mourinho was left frustrated by the decision to disallow a Harry Kane equaliser at St. Mary's.

England striker Kane turned in from close range only for the flag to go up, with VAR sticking with the decision of the officials after a review.

But Mourinho was clearly unimpressed and was seen entering the Southampton technical area before approaching a member of Ralph Hasenhuttl's backroom staff.

Mourinho appeared to try and look at their tactics on a piece of paper, sparking a reaction from the Southampton bench before he was shown a yellow card by referee Mike Dean.

Tottenham slipped to another defeat to Southampton after Danny Ings' opener, with the incident happening midway through the second half.

On the incident, Mourinho said: "I was rude. I clearly deserved the yellow card. I had bad words."

Tottenham's cause to get back into the clash on the south coast was not helped by an injury picked up by talisman Kane.

He appeared to have picked up a thigh injury and was replaced by Erik Lamela.

Spurs had earlier lost midfielder Tanguy Ndombele to an injury during the first half.

Giovani Lo Celso replaced the former Lyon man as Mourinho's woes were compounded.

His side have endured a mixed festive period, losing at home to Chelsea before their victory over Brighton.

They followed that up with a fortunate point at Norwich and face a real battle to get back into the Champions League.

Spurs remain six points adrift of Chelsea in fourth and sit sixth in the Premier League.
