Jose Mourinho has been warned he won't be able to secure another job in the Premier League after being sacked by Tottenham this week, and could be forced to either return to Italy or take a role in international management.
Spurs chief Daniel Levy called time on Mourinho's tenure in north London on Monday after a dire run of results.
Mourinho has now been sacked from each of his last three jobs in the Premier League, and appears to be unwilling to change his methods in order to escape a fourth somewhere down the line.
At each of his last clubs, Mourinho has been forced to deal with accusations that he fell out with players and became unpopular in the dressing room prior to his downfall.
And Jamie Carragher believes that after his performance at Tottenham, there are no more jobs in English football for him.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, the Liverpool icon explained that Mourinho is simply out of options in England's top-flight now.
He predicted that a return to Italy could be the best bet for him, considering he won Serie A twice. Failing that, Carragher believes the time might have come for him to take an international job.
"I don’t see Mourinho back in the Premier League, I do think that ship has sailed now," he said.
“I struggle to think of any club who would take him. He’s been at Spurs so he’s never going to go to Arsenal, he’s been at United so he’s never going to go to City, Liverpool wouldn’t have him.
“But would Jose go to a middle of the table club? I just don’t see Jose there, I really don’t.
“I think it’s either international football and his record in one-off games and cup finals or maybe going back to the Italian league, where the Italian champions this year will be Inter Milan, with a manager, Conte, who plays his type of football.
“Maybe you can get away with it a little bit more in Italy, that type of football, because it was certainly a turn-off for Spurs supporters, how they played.”
Mourinho didn't say much when asked about his future by Sky Sports, but indicated he wanted to be back in management as soon as possible.
He said: "No need. No need for breaks and [recharging] batteries. I'm always in football."
Mourinho was placed on gardening leave by Spurs after his dismissal, meaning the club will continue to pay him until the end of his contract or until he gets a new job.
