Jose Mourinho sends warning to Premier League as Tottenham linked with Real Madrid defender

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur digest for Saturday, January 9.

Spurs eye Real Madrid defender

Tottenham are said to be keen on a move for Real Madrid defender Eder Militao this month.

According to AS, Spurs looked into signing the Brazilian in the summer but couldn't pull off a move, now revisiting the situation.

Militao is out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu but Real Madrid are only willing to let him go for £45million having spent as much to sign him in 2019.

That might prove too much for Tottenham this month, but they could convince the Spaniard with a loan-to-buy or similar with Mourinho apparently keen to strengthen his defence.

Militao is primarily a centre-back, but he can also play at right-back.

Spurs receive Perisic boost

Tottenham's chances of landing Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic may have received a significant boost.

Reports from Foot Mercato suggest Spurs are showing 'great interest' in the winger, and are in talks to sign him on a loan deal with Jose Mourinho apparently keen to strengthen his squad.

The clubs are said to already be in negotiations and it seems Spurs may have a real chance of landing Perisic due to the Italian's financial issues.

According to Calcio Mercato, Inter are in a delicate position financially, facing liquidity issues that could put them in a perilous position when it comes to paying the bills.

The report claims Inter's cash liquidity issues could see them miss the payment of players' salaries despite managing to honour the payments in recent months.

Inter are said to be struggling to pay not only salaries but commissions as well as fees relating to the youth sector, with chairman Steven Zhang desperately attempting to raise cash.

Amid those issues, the Serie A giants could be forced to offload players and that could well help Tottenham's case if indeed they do want to land Perisic on loan.

Mourinho's ultimatum

Jose Mourinho has warned Tottenham Hotspur will 'refuse' to put up with an overly condensed fixture list amid postponed Premier League fixtures.

In his latest warning to the authorities, he has said Spurs will 'refuse to repeat' what they did earlier in the season when they played two Premier League games, a Carabao Cup tie and a Europa League match within the space of seven days.

"It is a completely impossible position for a club to have three matches postponed, especially if that club plays in Europe," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"We thought we might be having to play a game if we had only 14 players available from whole squad, including academy. We were prepared for that.

"We had positive cases. We cannot deny. Players, coaches, other staff. We have had problems."

He added: "The only thing we can say is that what we did in the beginning of the season is impossible to repeat and we refuse to repeat. We would never accept to play seven matches in three weeks like we did before."
