Jose Mourinho sends transfer message to the Spurs board with Lucas and Son Heung-min admission

Jose Mourinho admits that Tottenham will have to try other things to cope without injured striker Harry Kane.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Championship side Middlesbrough in their first game since Kane sustained a hamstring injury at Southampton on New Year's Day, with the England captain now set for a spell on the sidelines.

In his absence, Mourinho started with Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son against Boro, with Moura netting the equaliser as Spurs secured a replay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But Mourinho's comments in his post-match press conference will give some Tottenham fans cause for concern in the absence of Kane, with the January transfer window now open.

Jose Mourinho on Spurs following Liverpool's route

"I didn't speak, or if I did it was very occasionally, about [Hugo] Lloris. I am not coming here, or to press conferences pre-match, you never hear me, 'Lloris, Lloris, Lloris'," said Mourinho.

"So in this moment it is not going to be 'Harry, Harry, Harry, Harry'.

"We have what we have and we stick with them. The boys did what they can, you cannot transform Lucas or Son into a number 9 like Harry Kane.

"So we have to try other things and that is what we are going to do. Until Harry is out, obviously every minute he doesn't play means a lot to us, it is a big loss for us, but we have to accept it and we have to fight with the boys that are available."
