Jose Mourinho sends stark warning to Chelsea fans following defeat to Liverpool

Jose Mourinho has called on Chelsea's fans not to start accepting defeats.

Frank Lampard's side were clapped off the pitch at full time by the Stamford Bridge faithful after their defeat to Liverpool.

The Blues trailed 2-0 at the interval after goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino, before N'Golo Kanté reduced the arrears in the second period.

Mason Mount then went close to rescuing his side a point in the closing stages, but he could only direct his effort over.

But Mourinho, speaking afterwards on Sky Sports, believes Blues supporters can't get used to accepting defeats and believes if they do so then they will stop being a big club.

He said: “I hope they don’t get used to it, that’s a very important thing because when you start accepting defeats, just because you’re team played well and just because you’re players gave their best and gave a performance to be proud of, I think when you get used to it is when the big clubs stop being big clubs.

“But I think it shows that people are ready for what the season is going to be like for them, they’re ready to support one of the best professionals that I have ever worked with, a manager with potential and I think they’re ready to accept what this season is going to be.

“Clearly, you look today and the part of the performance, the part of the result, the reality of the numbers is that Liverpool are 10 points ahead of Chelsea.

"So let’s make it clear as an objective, Chelsea is not going to fight for the title, so let’s support what looks like is their philosophy, which is to give time to the players and to the manager.”
