Jose Mourinho sends Premier League table message during first Tottenham Hotspur interview

New Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has promised that Spurs will not finish the Premier League season in 14th place during his first interview at the club.

Tottenham announced the shock sacking of Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday citing the club's poor domestic form as the reason for change in the dugout.

Spurs reached the Champions League final last season, but are languishing in the bottom half of the standings following a poor start to the new campaign. The north London side have won just three of their opening 12 games.

Mourinho has been out of work since leaving United in December 2018 and was officially confirmed as Pochettino's replacement on Wednesday morning.

The Portuguese vowed to turn things around during his first official interview as Tottenham boss.

"In relation to the Premier League, I think we know where we are and we know that we don't belong there," Mourinho said.

"We should just play match after match, the next match we want to win and that's the same about the next and the next and the next until the last.

"At the end of the season, we will see where we are but I know that we are going to be in a different position than we are now.

"I look forward to the challenge, to the responsibility to bring happiness to everyone that loves the club."
