Jose Mourinho sends message to Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham unveiling

Jose Mourinho sent a message to his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino in his first press conference after replacing the Argentinean as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss took over from Pochettino on Wednesday morning, signing a three-and-a-half year deal just hours after the Argentinean was sensationally sacked after five-and-a-half years at the club.

Mourinho faced the press on Thursday afternoon, and said that the previous boss will always have a "home" in north London.

“I do it with a bit of sadness but I have to speak about Mauricio," said Mourinho.

"I have to congratulate him for the work he has done. This club will always be his home. This training ground will always be his training ground. The door will always be open for him.”

"He can come when he wants. When he miss the players, when he miss the people he work with. The door is always open for him. "He will find happiness again. He will find a great club again. He will have a great future."

Mourinho went on to explain why he took the job.

“Happiness-wise I am convinced my choice was a great one," he said as he faced the press.

"The job? Sometimes results make these decisions. I wouldn’t say it’s a (big) job (to turn things around). The club is huge. I know that I have potentially a great job in my hands.”

Mourinho was speaking ahead of taking charge of his first Spurs match away at West Ham on Saturday, with the club confirming that defender Jan Vertonghen and midfielder Tanguy Ndombele will be assessed before the London derby.

Erik Lamela and goalkeeping pair Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm are both definitely out.
