Jose Mourinho sends Chelsea warning to Frank Lampard ahead of new Premier League season

Chelsea are in a tough situation ahead of the new Premier League season due to their two-window transfer ban but former manager Jose Mourinho has provided some key advice.

Mourinho managed Chelsea from 2004 to 2007 and also from 2013 to 2015, winning three Premier League titles in total across the two stints.

It's safe to say he knows a fair bit about managing in the Premier League, with the 56-year-old offering up some words of caution for new boss Frank Lampard.

The former Chelsea star guided Derby County to the play-off final in his only season as a manager last time out and now has the hard task of leading the Blues this season.

But Mourinho insists that Lampard must trust the young players at the club even if the road might get a little bumpy along the way during the 2019/20 campaign.

"It depends on what you have in the academy, that's the point," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "I think every manager in the world loves to play kids from the academy.

"The question is: what is the product from the academy? What can you work with to improve?

"I think Chelsea is a very special club in relation to that. Chelsea needs a centre-back - Kurt Zouma! You don't need to buy, you don't need to spend. Zouma!

Ross Barkley scores screamer in warm up

"He's champion of England, he played for Chelsea, played for Stoke in the Premier League, played for Everton in the Premier League, played for France.

"He's your player, he's on loan, where are you going to buy a better player than him? You already have him.”
