Jose Mourinho sees red as Fenerbahce hold Manchester United

NEW DELHI: In a Europa League match on Thursday, Fenerbahce fought to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, extending the English club's winless run in European competition this season. The match saw Fenerbahce’s manager, Jose Mourinho, sent to the stands after protesting a decision by the referee.

Manchester United took the lead early when Christian Eriksen scored in the 15th minute. However, Fenerbahce equalized early in the second half with a goal from Youssef En Nesyri.

United, under manager Erik ten Hag, are now winless in their last three European games. The team, missing 10 players due to injuries and suspensions, struggled to maintain their advantage. As a result, United is currently 21st in the 36-team table, with their chances of advancing directly to the last 16 diminishing.

Ten Hag had said, "The players available to him were still capable of getting the job done," but the team failed to secure a win.

Key moments included a double-save by goalkeeper Andre Onana and a disallowed penalty appeal by Fenerbahce, which led to Mourinho's dismissal. United had late chances to win the match, but Fenerbahce’s goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic kept them at bay.

With five more Europa League matches ahead against PAOK, Bodo Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, Rangers, and FCSB, United has opportunities to improve. However, Ten Hag faces pressure with the team winning only four of their first 12 games this season.
