Jose Mourinho's right-hand man Rui Faria emerges as contender for Celtic job

Jose Mourinho's former right-hand man Rui Faria has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant manager's job at Celtic.

The Hoops are still searching for a new permanent boss almost 100 days after Neil Lennon 's resignation, with first-choice target Eddie Howe pulling out of negotiations last week.

Since then, there has been fervent speculation that Australian coach Ange Postecoglou will move to Glasgow to take up the role but his potential appointment is tricky given he is still in charge of Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos.

And this afternoon the Daily Record are reporting that Faria's representatives have already held 'tentative talks' with the Hoops hierarchy, with the 45-year-old keen to make a name for himself as an outright manager having been Mourinho's assistant at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Faria quit United in 2018, initially to spend time with his family, but spent the 2019/20 season in charge of Qatari outfit Al-Duhail, where he won the title.

Postecoglou is understood to still be the outright frontrunner for the position, but Faria's emergence is definitely an intriguing proposition for the club's fanbase.
