Jose Mourinho's punditry promise will delight Chelsea supporters ahead of Sky Sports debut

Jose Mourinho is the newest member of the Sky Sports punditry team.

The announcement was made on Saturday morning and he will remain in this position until managing to secure a return to the touchline.

His studio debut will come tomorrow afternoon as Manchester United and Chelsea - his two former clubs - meet at Old Trafford.

"The Premier League is a special competition for me, one that takes so much hard work to win and you just can't take your eyes off the matches every week," Mourinho said

"Sky Sports is the home of the Premier League and it's a pleasure for me to join this team and help to understand and explain what happened in each match.

"Football is a huge passion, it means so much to the fans, and I look forward to being part of the Premier League with them until I return to my place on the touchline."

But it's comments made by Mourinho six years ago which should delight Chelsea fans.

Amid complaints that there's not one Chelsea pundit on TV - although there is quite a few - Mourinho said he planned to retire from management at 75 and be in the Blues' corner.

"Lots of people on TV, but nobody a Chelsea man: Carragher, Liverpool; Thompson, Liverpool; Redknapp, Liverpool. Lawrenson, Liverpool; Hansen, Liverpool," Mourinho said in 2013.

"We don’t have one.

"When I retire, 75 years old, I go as a pundit to defend Chelsea on television."

That promise has come earlier than expected, any may not last too long but it should come as a relief for those Chelsea fans complaining about bias to the other top Premier League clubs.

It remains to be seen just how long Mourinho remains on the Sky Sports team as he said in May that he was hoping to be back in management.

"I have a lot of qualities and one of them is to respect other clubs and their management,” he told RMC.

"I have never spoken like ‘this club wanted me, they contacted me.'

"When I left Manchester United in December, I immediately took the decision I want to work from summer. I hope to be back to work in July in a project I really like."
