Jose Mourinho's poignant video of him leaving St James' Park after Tottenham's win at Newcastle

Jose Mourinho finally secured his first ever league win at St James' Park on Wednesday evening.

Arriving in England in 2004 as he became Chelsea boss after an incredibly successful time in charge of Porto, the experienced head coach had never been on the winning side on Tyneside in the league in his two spells in west London and his time at Manchester United.

However, that all changed in his first visit to Newcastle as Tottenham boss.

Taking the lead through Son Heung-min in the first half, Harry Kane's double secured an impressive victory for the Lilywhites after Matt Ritchie had earlier levelled things up with a fierce strike.

Mourinho was asked about finally ending his St James' Park hoodoo in his post-match press conference and he stated that he could finally pass Sir Bobby Robson's statue with a smile on his face.

"For me it's a good feeling, yes, not because it was the only stadium in the English Premier League where I had never won before, I have no problems with that," he said.

"But of course, I am very happy for the team and finally I can leave the stadium and pass Mr Robson's statue and laugh with him because every time I come here, I leave the stadium and I look at him with a sad face.

"It's the first time I can leave the stadium and smile."

Robson had a huge influence on Mourinho's managerial career following their time working together in the mid 90s.

Working alongside the former England manager as a coach and interpreter at Sporting CP, Porto and Barcelona, the two would eventually part ways when Robson's time at the Nou Camp came to an end.

Mourinho has always spoken incredibly fondly about the Newcastle United great and he paid tribute to him once again when leaving St James' Park as he uploaded a video, which can be seen above, to his Instagram account.

"Finally boss," he captioned the short video.

Tottenham's 3-1 victory over the Magpies has now seen them close in on Wolves in sixth following their 1-1 draw at Burnley.

Spurs' final two games of the season are now against Leicester City and Crystal Palace as they look to secure a Europa League spot for the 2020/21 campaign after such a disappointing year in north London.
