Jose Mourinho's personal plea to Tammy Abraham as agent makes Arsenal transfer decision

Jose Mourinho reportedly phoned Tammy Abraham to personally convince him to join Roma as he looks set to leave Chelsea this summer.

The Serie A side have had a £34million offer accepted for the Englishman but the player has yet to agree on personal terms with the Italians.

Arsenal have also emerged as a potential landing spot for the striker with the north London club willing to meet his £4m-a-year wage demands, but the Gunners have yet to agree on a price.

Abraham now has a decision to make as he considers moving abroad but it's claimed his preferred destination is Arsenal as he wants to remain in the Premier League.

But new Roma boss Mourinho picked up the phone to persuade him to make the switch to Italy's capital, according to Corriere della Sera.

The report states that Abraham's representatives feel that joining Roma would be better for his career, compared to Arsenal, as it would "guarantee him greater opportunities for growth".

Roma have offered him a £3m-a-year contract which is below the £4m he is asking for.

Chelsea would rather sell Abraham to Roma instead of him joining their London rivals.

The 23-year-old fell out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel despite being a regular under Frank Lampard before he was dismissed midway through last season. Abraham ended the campaign as Chelsea's joint-top scorer with 12 goals.

Abraham has travelled with Chelsea's squad for their Super Cup clash in Belfast on Wednesday night against Villarreal, but Romelu Lukaku's imminent arrival is set to spell the end for the forward at the club.

The Belgium international is set to complete his £97.5m signing from Inter Milan this week. Lukaku passed his medical in Italy before flying to London to finalise his deal with the Blues.
