Jose Mourinho’s one claim over the Spurs job that Chelsea fans already know won’t ring true

Chelsea fans were waking up this morning in some sort of shock when hearing that Jose Mourinho was announced as the new Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

After five and a half years, Mauricio Pochettino was sacked as Spurs's boss, and it didn't take long for them to bring in the former Blues boss as his performance.

There is no love lost between Chelsea supporters after Mourinho took the Manchester United job.

But that might have even gone up a notch with the announcement that he is going to be in the dugout for Chelsea's London rivals over the coming campaigns.

Of course, Blues fans would have been keen to see what Mourinho would say when he was unveiled by their Premier League rivals.

Mourinho said in his statement: "I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me."

But there is something in those words that might well ring untrue with a lot of Blues supporters when reading it.

Mourinho has never been one to let the academy flourish, which is certainly something that Blues fans would be quick to point out.

There are a couple of players who were given their debut first team chance, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen, however it didn't last long.

Mourinho was keen to bring players in, rather than look towards the Blues academy, something that has changed now with Frank Lampard at the club.

Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James are all getting their chances, with Loftus-Cheek on his way back from injury.

But the Blues supporters will certainly be looking at Mourinho's comments and be giving Spurs fans a word of warning.
