Jose Mourinho's most important January transfer decision at Tottenham according to 94.5% of fans

Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have told Jose Mourinho to go and sort out the situation at right-back in the January transfer window.

Kieran Trippier was sold to Atletico Madrid in the summer leaving Spurs with uncertainty in the Englishman's position.

So far Kyle Walker-Peters has failed to make the role his own while the jury is still out on Serge Aurier for some supporters, even if he has had his moments under the new head coach at Hotspur Way.

Juan Foyth and Moussa Sissoko have even touted as solutions to this problematic part of the team but fans now wish to see Spurs go and find a proper replacement for Trippier in the transfer market.

Tottenham: A look back at 2019

football.london ran a survey asking readers who follow Tottenham about the players they wanted to see signed in 2020 and the areas of the squad in need of the most attention.

A colossal 94.5% of those who responded said right-back was their biggest priority for the January transfer window.

It wasn't the only part of the team picked out as needing some upgrades either.

The future of the squad at centre-back could also do with a bit of extra work to make sure Tottenham have the depth and quality required with 78.9% of those who answered to the multiple choice survey calling for a new defender.

Over on the other side of the pitch, a left-back could also be needed according to 58.5% of responses. Clearly there is a sense that more is needed on top of Ben Davies, Danny Rose and the prospect of Ryan Sessegnon still lining up among the back line.

Away from the defence, 51.2% wanted to see a new holding midfielder arrive at the club while 48.0% were left craving a central midfielder, even after the signing of Tanguy Ndombele in the summer.

Other concerns included a striker or forward to complement and also compete with Harry Kane, an attacking midfielder and a goalkeeper, although these were some way behind the other issues with the squad raised above.

Fortunately, Mourinho was given a few hints over the players to solve this problems.

Youcef Atal came third in another question that asked supporters who they would sign. The Nice defender was the highest ranked right-back on the list with 12.89% of the vote, although he is now injured and unlikely to move in January.

Leicester City's Ricardo Pereira was second to the Algerian when it comes to players in their position with 2.84% of votes.

Max Aarons of Norwich City was another option with 2.77% of votes.

When it came to centre-backs, Kalidou Koulibaly was the highest-ranked player with only 1.53% of votes.

Left-backs were even less popular. Ben Chilwell was picked out by 1.31% of those who took part.

By contrast, despite not naming attacking midfielders as a top priority, the poll was dominated by Paulo Dybala, Bruno Fernandes, Hakim Ziyech and James Maddison.

Whether or not these demands will match up with what Spurs will actually do in the transfer market is another thing entirely.
