Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly chasing their first signing of the Nuno Espirito Santo reign.
According to The Athletic, the north London club have offered €15million (£12.9m) for Takehiro Tomiyasu, but Bologna are holding out for €17m, as well as add-on bonuses.
The Japan defender, who can also play as a right-back, has impressed in the Serie A for the past couple of seasons and Spurs are said to be keen on adding him to their squad.
Tottenham often looked vulnerable in defence last season, under both Jose Mourinho and then Ryan Mason when he took over on a temporary basis.
Now, with Espirito Santo in charge, the former Wolves boss may see the back-line as somewhat of a priority as he looks to put his marker down on the underachieving squad.
Tomiyasu is reportedly being chased by Spurs now, but a fresh report has emerged that claims the club had the chance to sign the Japan defender before.
According to the Evening Standard, via the Express, Spurs have been tracking the versatile defender for some time, but declined the chance of signing him as former boss Mourinho was not personally keen on him and decided against bringing him to the club.
However, it appears that Tottenham have continued to monitor his situation at Bologna and have now made a move for the 22-year-old.
As it stands, Nuno has Toby Alderweireld, Joe Rodon, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier to choose from in the central defender department,
Tomiyasu can also play at right-back, and with Serge Aurier looking set to leave the north London club, there could be a new right-sided defender brought to the capital as his replacement.
