Tottenham fired Jose Mourinho on Monday with the team just five points off the top four in the Premier League and with a Carabao Cup final on the horizon.
Spurs chief Daniel Levy took the decision based on the club's poor form and disappointing style of play, with fans losing patience with the negative football on display.
Much was made of Mourinho's near-£34million compensation package, with various reports suggesting it would cost an incredible amount for them to part ways with the Portuguese coach.
However, according to various reports, Mourinho will miss out on £14m from his original compensation package.
Mourinho is set to rake in £16m from Spurs, with part of his compensation fee slashed due to the team's poor league position.
The reason is apparently that some of the compensation package was linked to performance-related clauses.
With Spurs missing out on the Champions League and having crashed out of the Europa League in humiliating fashion, Mourinho will instead receive his £10m salary for the final year of his contract.
It had initially been reported that Mourinho would be sacked at the end of the season if Champions League football wasn't secured.
However, Levy took the decision to wield the axe on Monday and sacked the two-time Champions League winning coach.
Rumours had suggested that the dismissal came about as a result of the possible European Super League.
However, those rumours have been dismissed, with it instead being claimed that the decision was based solely due to matters on the pitch.
In a statement, Levy said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.
"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."
