Jose Mourinho's big demand that Tottenham Hotspur must match to replace Mauricio Pochettino

Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had already set out exactly what he wanted from his next job prior to Tottenham Hotspur's decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino.

He is now the front-runner to replace the Argentinian in north London. It would be his first job as a manager since 2018 when he was dismissed by United.

The Portuguese has also managed Inter, Porto and Real Madrid and has won league titles in England, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

The 56-year-old has also won the Champions League on two occasions. Pochettino took Spurs to the final of the competition last season only to lose to Liverpool.

Despite achieving four top four finishes with Tottenham during his five full seasons in charge the 47-year-old was unable to bring a trophy back to Hotspur Way in that time.

Mourinho defines himself by his trophy count and has also laid out exactly what he would want from his next job in a recent intervie with The Coaches’ Voice .

“The only thing that I know is what I don’t want, and what I don’t want is crystal clear," he said. "What I want, the general profile of course, but I can’t say clubs or countries.

“I am quite pathological in this sense that I have to play to win, and then if I win or I don’t win that’s my problem, and the players’ and the club’s and the structure.

“But I need a project where the feeling is I play to win.

“If someone gives me a wonderful, incredible, amazing, 10-year contract and tells me ‘the objective of the team is to stay in the first part of the table, if you finish seventh or eighth or ninth it is perfect, that's not for me.

“That’s my nature. Of course, sometimes I remember what I won before, but it’s not me, so my next is to fight to win."

Mourinho has garnered a reputation for being a demanding manager when it comes to transfer targets and spending in the transfer window.

It would be interesting to see how his expectations over signings would match up with the way that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy prefers to operate.
