Jose Mourinho reveals 'special' Ed Woodward Manchester United text following Tottenham appointment

Jose Mourinho has revealed he received 'special' messages of support from two key Manchester United figures shortly after he was appointed the new manager of Tottenham.

The Portuguese returned to the Premier League on Wednesday when he was announced as the man to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

Mourinho had been out of management since his time at United where he won the Europa League, EFL Cup and one Community Shield.

Despite being sacked by Woodward at United last December, the new Tottenham manager has revealed he was one of the first people to congratulate him on the new job, as well as from Richard Arnold.

"I received messages from everybody, everywhere [from my former clubs]," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"Maybe I get the opportunity to apologise for not answering 500 of them that I couldn’t answer. I have 700 but only had time to answer 200.

"But it was curious to see, from my last club, so many people showing me that respect, empathy and feeling. It was nice.

"All of them were special. The first one was from [United managing director] Richard Arnold. The third, fourth or fifth was Ed Woodward. And they were my bosses.

"I think we (Daniel Levy) will get on well. He explained to me the vision for the club and I embraced that.

"It was one of the most important reasons I accepted. So when I did that, it’s a very good start."
