Jose Mourinho reveals his reasons for completing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart transfers

Jose Mourinho is thrilled with Tottenham Hotspur's recent signings.

Spurs recently wrapped up moves for free agent Joe Hart and Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who was signed on a deal worth around £15m.

And Mourinho believes both were absolutely vital for Spurs as they prepare for another compact campaign.

"Joe is a good keeper with 75 caps for England and that says everything about him," he told CBS Sports.

Tottenham fixture list

"We know his potential, his experience and his desire to go back to...shall we say top clubs, which was a very important thing for his decision.

"We are more than happy because we are a very young squad.

"We need experience and we need this knowhow of playing with big responsibilities.

"To have in the squad Joe Hart, (Hugo) Lloris (Paulo) Gazzaniga, that was really good cover for a position where sometimes it is really important to have cover.

"It happened to us last season with Hugo and a big injury and after Michel Vorm went back to Holland.

"We had to sign Joe on a free transfer."

Speaking about the arrival of Hojbjerg, Mourinho added: "Pierre is a player we have followed. We have followed him for quite a long time and the fact he had just a year on his contract gave us a good position to negotiate for him with Southampton.

"He is a very strong midfielder with good knowhow of what the Premier League is.

"To play a few years with Bayern Munich also gave him the knowhow of responsibilities to play for clubs with big ambitions.

"And we know this season is going to be absolutely crazy in terms of numbers of matches. The fixtures will be very condensed and we needed an extra man in our midfield options.

"We are very happy with Pierre coming to join us."
