Former Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho has suggested that Harry Kane’s lack of trophies on the club stage could act as fuel for the striker at Euro 2020.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward heads to the tournament with the Three Lions having never lifted a domestic honour with the North London outfit.
During Kane’s time with the first team, Spurs have managed to reach their first-ever UEFA Champions League final in 2019 only to lose out to Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Meanwhile, they have twice reached the League Cup final, whilst also assembling viable title challenges during Mauricio Pochettino’s time in charge of the club.
They have left empty-handed on each occasion though and Mourinho believes that those respective failures could see England captain Kane even hungrier for international honours - starting this summer with the Euros.
Speaking to The Sun, the Portuguese said: “Harry [Kane] is the one that has on his shoulders a lot.
“The country expects a lot from him. He expects a lot from himself.
“He's the captain and he wants to win something. He's not doing that with the club, so, of course, he's going to try everything he can to do it with the Three Lions.”
Kane’s previous exploits at an international tournament will only give confidence to supporters as he netted six goals at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and claimed the Golden Boot.
He also goes into the latest tournament having enjoyed an extremely profitable season in North London and talk about his future amid links to Man City and Chelsea.
The 27-year-old claimed the Premier League Golden Boot for a third time, notching 33 goals in all competitions whilst also managing to accumulate 17 assists.
