Jose Mourinho responds to question on Paulo Dybala transfer and provides update on January plans

The Paulo Dybala saga was one of the big talking points from the summer transfer window.

Tottenham were in talks with the Argentinian striker for the final few weeks of the transfer window and reportedly had a deal in place with Juventus for his signature.

There was even talk that Dybala had agreed terms on a deal with Spurs, but the transfer could not get over the line because of image rights around the player being owned by a third party.

Dybala has scored nine goals in 22 appearances for Juve so far this season and looks to be settled again, although there have been reports that Spurs could return with another bid for him this month.

Those rumours are only likely to heighten given the injury concerns over Harry Kane, who limped off with a hamstring injury during the defeat to Southampton on New Year's Day.

As Spurs prepare to face Middlesbrough in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, head coach Jose Mourinho has been asked about a potential Dybala transfer.

But it does not look like Spurs fans will be welcoming the Argentine to N17 in the near future.

Mourinho said: "I cannot tell you anything about Dybala. I just can’t. If something happened, is to happen or why it didn’t happen I don’t know."

And Mourinho poured cold water on Spurs doing any business in January too, in a message that will concern the supporters.

He added: "We have what we have. That’s the squad that started pre-season, that’s the squad we have for the season.

"Again everybody knows the importance of Harry in the squad. I think irreplaceable, if you think about one player by one player, I think he’s irreplaceable. But we have to try solutions with the players we have.

"Of course the market is open until the end of January. Everybody in the club wants to give the teams the best conditions but at the same time the world doesn’t end at the end of this season. We have a few months until the end of the season to fight for results obviously but nothing ends at the end of the season. The end of the season is just the end of the first period."
