Jose Mourinho receives injury boost ahead of Tottenham's FA Cup clash against Southampton

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has been given an injury boost ahead of his side's FA Cup fourth round replay against Southampton on Wednesday night.

Spurs have been a little short of players recently, with the likes of Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko suffering mid-to-long-term injuries, while players such as Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso have struggled with fitness issues this season.

And in defence, Mourinho fielded inexperienced defender Japhet Tanganga at left-back against Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday, with Danny Rose having left for Newcastle on loan in the January transfer window.

However, Mourinho has welcomed one star back to training this week following an injury layoff, with the news that Ben Davies is back and available.

The defender picked up an ankle injury in the win against West Ham back in November - Mourinho's first game in charge of Spurs following his arrival after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

The Wales international suffered ankle ligament damage in that match, but the club have confirmed that he is now back in training ahead of the FA Cup tie against Ralph Hasenhuttl's team on Wednesday.

Whether or not he is fit enough to start the game remains to be seen, but the return of a prominent defender over the last few seasons for Spurs is another reason to be happy for Mourinho.

As well as Davies' return, Dele Alli's ankle problem does not seem to be serious, with the club stating that he was undergoing assessment ahead of the game against the Saints.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko are still undergoing rehabilitation following hamstring and knee surgeries respectively, while Steven Bergwijn is unfortunately unavailable for the match after being signed following the initial game at St. Mary's.
