Jose Mourinho ramps up bid for honorary Tartan Army status as his Scotland love-in gets fresh Euro 2020 twist

Legendary football manager Jose Mourinho has continued to profess his love for Scotland ahead of their crucial Croatia showdown.

The Special One is fast becoming an honorary member of the Tartan Army having hailed Steve Clarke 's side after their stalemate at Wembley.

He admits the country holds a special place in his heart having earned his coaching badges here and as he watches Scott McTominay progress - having given him his Manchester United breakthrough.

Roma boss Mourinho is working for talkSPORT at Euro 2020 and continued to fly the saltire on air with Scotland on the brink of the last 16.

The multi-time Champions League winner tipped Clarke and Co for success in Croatia in what looks like a winner takes all clash at Hampden.

Mourinho reckons the team can make it without wonderkid Billy Gilmour despite his key role in the point against England.

He said: "They know that I spend an amazing time in Scotland with so many friends when I did my coaching courses.

"They know that I love the country and their mentality. Everyone of my friends knows that I am with them.

"Part of that is because Steve is a friend and I know the responsibility that a national team manager feels in these moments.

"McTominay is one of these boys that always stays with me, because they start with you and you have this special feeling, so yes I would love to see them go through.

"I believe the feeling they brought from Wembley will help them, that mentality, that emotion, that empathy will help them.

"Billy Gilmour not playing is a huge, huge blow, because he was responsible for the quality of the possession and building up.

"The second match was totally different from the first, so I think that is a big, big blow."
