It's not just Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen in N17 who are now entering the final few months of their Tottenham contracts.
Spurs youngster Japhet Tanganga is also in the same boat as his teammates at present and the club will be keen to ensure that the talented defender remains in the capital.
Really making a name for himself on the pre-season tour of Asia in July, Mauricio Pochettino elected to hand the 20-year-old his senior debut in September for the Carabao Cup tie away at Colchester United.
While it was a dreadful night for the club as they got knocked out on penalties by their League Two opponents, Tanganga was one of the rare positives to come from the game after a strong performance at the back.
Given that he has been on the bench a couple of times under Jose Mourinho so far, the defender could get his chance in the team on Sunday when they take on Middlesbrough in the third round of the FA Cup.
Tanganga appears to have a very bright future at the club and the new head coach is confident that he will put pen-to-paper on new terms to remain at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the foreseeable future.
"I think the club is always interested in these young players," the head coach told football.london at his pre-match press conference.
"I cannot tell you specifically if it will happen next week or next month, I am not in conditions to tell you that.
"I am in conditions to tell you that the club is always thinking about a project for the young players and these young players who are with the first team now.
"Going on loan, don't going, staying, the club is always worried about them, so I presume that Tanganga will be a player to sign a new contract yes."
As Mourinho is expected to shuffle his pack on Teeside to give players on the periphery of the first team some valuable minutes, Tanganga could potentially come in for one of Toby Alderweireld or Vertonghen against the Championship side.
