Jose Mourinho provides Son Heung-min injury update that will worry Tottenham fans

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho has said that Son Heung-min could be out of action for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a fractured arm.

The forward sustained the injury in the early stages of the 3-2 Premier League win over Aston Villa, but played the full 90 minutes of the game, scoring the winning goal with 30 seconds of added time remaining.

In a statement on their official website, Spurs wrote that Son would be out for a 'number of weeks' with the injury, however, speaking in his press conference ahead of the Champions League match vs Red Bull Leipzig, Mourinho has said that that timescale is optimistic.

“I think Simon found a very nice way to write the statement," he said. "If I was to write it I’d write something different. We miss him according to Simon for a number of weeks.”

Mourinho is already without star striker Harry Kane through a hamstring injury, meaning that Tottenham are critically short on striking options, and the Spurs is not optimistic about Son making a return before the end of the season.

”I’m not going to count on him [Son] again this season," he added. "If he plays two or three games then it’s because he (his press officer) is very optimistic, but I’m not counting on him.”

Tottenham face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday evening before travelling to Stamford Bridge in a crucial game in the race for Champions League football next season.
