Jose Mourinho provides Harry Kane injury update after Tottenham loss at Southampton

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Harry Kane is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Kane limped out of Spurs' 1-0 defeat by Southampton on New Year's Day, appearing to clutch his hamstring.

Tottenham boss Mourinho insists that it is too early to know quite how bad Kane's problem is, but claims that it will not be a quick fix.

Kane will miss Sunday's FA Cup third round clash at Middlesbrough, while it could be a race against time to see whether he is ready to for the match with Liverpool a week later.

Mourinho also addressed the problems that midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has suffered.

The midfielder again missed action after sitting out of the Southampton game.

"Tanguy Ndombele, I don't know. I imagine this is the tenth injury of the season," Mourinho said following the match.

"They stop him to play. It doesn't give him continuity. We had three days between matches. Once more, he is out again.

"Harry Kane plays every minute, he plays all the time.

"It might be big, it might be small. For sure he will be out."

He added: "It is negative... hamstring is always negative. Is it a tear, is it a small thing, is it a contraction? At this moment I cannot say."

Mourinho was also quizzed on any potential January business for Tottenham.

He said: "Come on, we need time to work. We need what we are not having. We need to focus on what we have. We are not looking to be the kings of the market. We are going to work.

"We see the bad result today which is the continuity of the last year.

"For 12 months, it has been very difficult to get results away from home. It is difficult.

"The work is not about buying, it is about working with the players on the pitch. It is something that is very difficult for us because we have no time to do it."
