Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, with the French centre-back's future currently uncertain.
The 28-year-old is into the last year of his contract in the Spanish capital, and having been with the club for a decade for a decade he is said to want a new challenge in football.
Chelsea are among the clubs said to be interested in a move for the French star, who is currently in action for his country at Euro 2020.
However, competition is likely to be fierce for the defender, with Manchester United also said to be interested in a move.
According to Spanish outlet ABC, Chelsea have been in contact with Real Madrid about a move, though club president Florentino Perez insists they have not accepted any offers for the defender.
Varane has become one of the standout defenders in the world, and this summer will represent the Spanish club's last opportunity to receive a big transfer fee for the centre-back.
Varane certainly has an impressive honours list from his time at Real Madrid, winning three La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues, as well as the World Cup with his country.
And former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already given his verdict on the defender, stating back in 2014 that: "I think Varane is the best central defender in the world."
Should Chelsea be able to convince the centre-back to make the move to Stamford Bridge, it would strengthen an already strong back line as Thomas Tuchel targets a Premier League title challenge.
