Jose Mourinho proven right about Kieran Tierney almost 12 months on from Arsenal transfer

It has been quite a week for everyone involved with Arsenal Football Club.

After being beaten 2-1 by North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Sunday afternoon, there was a sombre mood around the Emirates Stadium.

Fast forward by seven days and the mood could not be more different.

After getting the better of newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool on Wednesday evening, beating Jurgen Klopp's side 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners progressed to the final of the FA Cup on Saturday evening with a well-deserved 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Whilst the victory over Liverpool had slices of good fortune about it, the victory over City was not so fortunate, as Mikel Arteta once again tweaked his side's style of play to put one over on his former master, Guardiola.

Whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, understandably, hogged the headlines for another two-goal haul, which has left Arsenal awaiting a Wembley date against Chelsea or Manchester United at the start of next month, every player, to a man, delivered an assured showing.

From David Luiz producing a faultless showing at centre-back, to Granit Xhaka pulling the strings in midfield, Arsenal were worthy winners.

And another man that once again delivered the goods was left-back Kieran Tierney, who has been nothing short of outstanding in recent weeks.

After overcoming a series of injury troubles since arriving at the Emirates Stadium last summer, the former Celtic man has been consistently solid under Arteta's guidance, and so it proved again against City.

After keeping Mohamed Salah quiet against Liverpool in midweek, Tierney kept City winger Riyad Mahrez at arm's length this time around with a superb display at left-back.

And it would be fair to say that Tierney's recent performances will have come as no surprise to Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese chief, who was out-of-work at the start of the season, heaped praise on Tierney after he had completed his move to Arsenal, tipping him for great things at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking back in August last year, Mourinho told Sky Sports: “Tierney is like a young Nacho Monreal.

"He is the same kind of profile. He’s reliable, looks a good character, looks a great personality.

“He looks a little like someone from a previous generation in some aspects.

“He has a humble way of behaving and I like his profile.”

Almost 12 months on since Mourinho made that admission, it would be fair to say that he was right in his assessment.

After overcoming injury problems, the Scotland international now looks to be an assured addition and has the potential to cement himself as the Gunners' first choice left-back for years to come.
