Jose Mourinho praises Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay following Tottenham performance

Jose Mourinho praised the performance of Scott McTominay as Manchester United defeated his Tottenham side in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Scotland international McTominay returned to the United line-up following an injury which had seen him miss his side's previous three matches.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive comeback as United returned to winning ways following a string of three straight matches without victory.

Mourinho was the manager to give McTominay his breakthrough at Old Trafford and even awarded the Scot with a special award as his own player of the season at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

McTominay has continued his fine form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at United and has established himself as a key figure in the first-team this season.

Speaking after the match Mourinho admitted United's added emotion aided them in getting the win, but insisted it could have been a different result had his side not conceded a penalty after the half-time break.

"That's the way we normally do and didn't lose because of an attacking set up," Mourinho told reporters when asked about his side's attacking approach. "Because of the way we come to the game by the emotional way, they had more emotion than us, you see for example McTominay performance, the globality of his performance, he was dominant.

"But then, as I was saying, half-time we finish the first-half with a good feeling of a positive result, the feeling of we were playing better than them, much more control in last 10 or 15 minutes.

"In the second-half we make that mistake and the game is a different game, after that, one injury here, one injury there, they did well, the referee allowed them to do it."
