New Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho says the club will always be home to his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.
The Portuguese took training for the first time at Hotspur Way on Wednesday afternoon and will be in the dugout when they face London rivals West Ham on Saturday looking to begin the climb from 14th in the Premier League.
Pochettino's sacking after five-and-a-half years of incredible growth, culminating in the Champions League final last season before things began to fall apart early in this campaign. That ending, however, did not stop Mourinho from congratulating and praising his former rival.
“I do it with a bit of sadness but I have to speak about Mauricio," Mourinho said during his first press conference as Tottenham boss. "I have to congratulate him for the work he has done.
"This club will always be his home. He can come when he wants, when he misses the players, when he misses the people he works with, the door is always open for him. From my experience, tomorrow is another day and he will find happiness again. He will find a great club again, he will have a great future."
Mourinho faces a fast start after time out of management following his sacking at Manchester United last December.
The former Real Madrid boss, who appointed a new look coaching setup yesterday, says he has improved since leaving Old Trafford.
"The last 11 months have been used to prepare," he said.
"I've had time to think about many things and during my career I made mistakes, I am not going to make the same mistakes, I am going to make new ones.
"Deep inside I am really happy I am at a Big football club with a big structure."
