Jose Mourinho opens up on emotional Inter Milan exit and gives update on his future

Jose Mourinho has admitted his next managerial role will not be in Italy - despite his emotional Inter Milan exit.

Portuguese boss Mourinho has not had a job in football since he was sacked as Manchester United's chief last December, although has done plenty of punditry, most recently on Sky Sports.

Mourinho had been linked with a return to Inter in the summer, a job another ex-Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, eventually got.

The three-time Premier League winner enjoyed one of the most impressive two seasons of his career at the San Siro.

He won the Serie A in his debut year at Inter, before completing a league, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble the following campaign.

Instead of defending the title a third time, Mourino decided to finally accept Real Madrid's offer to move to the Bernabeu.

Mourinho insists that he holds fond memories at his 'home and family' Inter but revealed that his next move will not be back to Milan.

"My future? I don't think it will be in Italy," he said on Italian TV show Tiki Taka.

"Inter is my home, my family. [Massimo] Moratti is a friend, my president. The story of the treble was fantastic.

"After [the final in] Madrid, if I returned to San Siro to celebrate, I would never leave Inter. When you say goodbye to a family it's a hard thing to deal with.

"That night I already knew I was leaving, I couldn't say no to Real Madrid for the third time."

Mourinho could be in line for a return to Real though, according to the Sunday Times.

Zinedine Zidane is under pressure at the La Liga giants despite sitting top of the table, with Florentino Perez ready to turn to Mourinho.

Mourinho has recently spoken about his time in Spain - where he was ousted having failed to win a European crown in three years.

"Real Madrid was my best experience because of what I learned as a coach, as a man, for the lessons that I took in my career and in my life. It is the best memory of my career, it was fantastic," Mourinho told Portuguese TV, as  reported by Marca .

"What they asked me at Real Madrid was within my nature. They told me that we had the best team in the world on the other side ( Barcelona ), that they were crushing us and we had to reverse the situation.

"We had to prevent Barca from crushing us and that's why the Mestalla Cup final is the most important.

"From there nothing was the same. We won La LIga, the Super Cup, but nothing was like the cup final and I unfortunately failed to win the three Champions League semi-finals."
