Jose Mourinho has hinted at a reserved approach to the January transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur after taking over as manager.
The Portuguese replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs on Wednesday after almost a year out following his exit at Manchester United.
But despite a history of lavish spending, Mourinho insists he does not need new signings just yet.
“The best gift are the players who are here,” Mourinho claimed.
“I don’t need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better.
“I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them.”
Mourinho acknowledged the club’s talented squad and academy as the driving force behind him choosing Spurs.
“I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters,” Mourinho explained.
“The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”
