Jose Mourinho names the one part of Matteo Guendouzi's game that improved against Spurs

Jose Mourinho has praised Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi for bringing more positivity to his game during the North London Derby.

The 20-year-old provided the cross for Pierre-emerick Aubameyang to stab home the equaliser against Tottenham in the second half to complete the comeback from 2-0 down.

Guendouzi earned praise from fans and pundits for his all around performance in the middle of the park and former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has identified a part of his game that the midfielder changed against Tottenham.

"Sometimes, when I watch matches, I’m a bit critical, in a good sense, on the coaching side of it," Mourinho said on Sky Sports.

"I think sometimes Guendouzi plays too easy, too many side passes when he can play forwards. His first control is usually followed with a sideways pass.

"He played a good game today and this is a great example of what he can do because he is a kid with talent. You need that kind of movement and Aubameyang made a fantastic run for him.”

Arsenal boss Unai Emery was also asked about the midfielder's performance, and the Spaniard has highlighted the experience of last season as one of the reasons for the positive start to the campaign.

Europa League group stage: Who are the British teams set to play?

"He is very young but he’s progressing. Last year was amazing for him, his progress here, taking confidence, taking rhythm, knowing the Premier League," he said in his post match press conference.

"This year he has started giving us one step more. Tactically with the ball he gives us a lot of control and the combination [play] for us is very important; he's one of the key for that.

"But also he is working to take the balance defensively and working his body to progress and be stronger in the situations needed in the Premier League."
