Jose Mourinho names Manchester United player who ‘will always be my boy’

Jose Mourinho has continued to pile the praise on Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay after his second full season at Old Trafford.

The former United manager handed McTominay his debut in the first-team two years ago and played a huge role in the player's transformation into a valued squad member.

Mourinho even handed out a special award to the 22-year-old at last season's end of season awards when he named the Scotland international as his own player of the year.

The manager has always had a special bond with the central midfielder and he now admits that McTominay 'will always be his boy'.

Mourinho's former assistant Steve Clarke has just been appointed the new Scotland manager following a sensational season at Kilmarnock, and reacting to the appointment the former United boss backed McTominay to become a star for the national side.

“I think he’s more than ready,” Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

“First of all, he feels his country deeply, I know that.

“And second you have an accumulation of experience during all these years.

“Assistant manager in top clubs, first-team manager in many others.

“Now the last couple of years in Scotland, I think this challenge comes in the right moment for him.

“And I just hope that my boy can help him because Scott McTominay will always be my boy.”
