Jose Mourinho moves one step closer to Real Madrid return

  • Jose Mourinho is reportedly set for a sensational return to Real Madrid, with his appointment expected to be confirmed following Florentino Perez's re-election as the club's president.
  • Perez secured his eighth term as president, having fended off challenger Enrique Riquelme, and had previously indicated his desire to bring Mourinho back to the club.
  • Reports suggest that Mourinho, currently managing Benfica, has agreed a three-year deal to replace Alvaro Arbeloa, who took over in January after Xabi Alonso's departure.
  • Perez affirmed his commitment to the club's future success, stating his pride in welcoming back Mourinho, whom he described as a 'Madridista' and one of the best coaches in the world.
  • During his campaign, Perez also promised to spend €150m on an unnamed player and to sign defenders Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, while Mourinho's previous tenure at Real Madrid saw him win LaLiga and the Copa del Rey.
