Jose Mourinho makes Troy Parrott statement after Son Heung-min injury blow rocks Tottenham

Troy Parrott is not ready to lead the line for Tottenham Hotspur in the absence of Son Heung-min.

That's the view of Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho.

The big news surrounding the north London outfit is that of the South Korea international potentially missing the rest of the season after sustaining a fracture to his right arm during the 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

Aston Villa V Tottenham Hotspur: Match in a minute

A statement via the club's official website reads: "Heung-Min Son is to undergo surgery this week after sustaining a fracture to his right arm.

"The South Korea international suffered the injury during our win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

"Following surgery, our medical staff shall be reviewing management options for Son’s rehabilitation with the player expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks."

Naturally attentions turn towards Spurs' two huge games this week.

On Wednesday night they welcome RB Leipzig to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Champions League, before facing Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

There has been calls for Parrott to get the nod in one of the upcoming games, but comments from Mourinho is likely to disappoint those supporters asking for the Republic of Ireland international to get a chance.

"My thoughts are that Troy Parrott is not ready and Ryan Sessegnon is not a striker," Mourinho said during his pre-match press conference at Hotspur Way.

Mourinho's comments could be a sign that he doesn't want to place too much pressure on Parrott.

It's the business end of the season and it would appear that the Portuguese tactician doesn't want to rush the wonderkid's development.

In Son's absence, it could mean that Lucas Moura continues to lead the line with Steven Bergwijn providing competition.
