Jose Mourinho makes transfer admission after his first two days at Tottenham

Jose Mourinho insists that he doesn't need new players at Tottenham, after taking charge of his first training session as Spurs head coach.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss led training for the first time yesterday (Wednesday), having been appointed as the new Tottenham head coach at 6.30am in the morning.

He only has a couple of days to work with his new players ahead of his first game in charge against West Ham on Saturday, but Mourinho said he is happy with the squad he has to work with, after admitting that he has tried to sign some of them in the past.

"The best gift are the players who are here. I don't need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better. I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them," he said, speaking at his first press conference as the Tottenham head coach.

"I told the players I came here because of them. I tried to buy some for different clubs and some I didn't even try because you know how difficult it was.

Jose Mourinho's career in numbers

"I don't want to make big changes. I want to respect the base that they did for five and a half years. It's not what they did for the last two days."

Spurs have been linked with a number of players since Mourinho's appointment, ahead of the January transfer window, but the Portuguese boss now has several weeks to get to know his new players better and assess the options in his squad.
