Jose Mourinho makes Tottenham transfer claim as he opens up on Kyle Walker-Peters' future

Jose Mourinho has claimed that Tottenham won't stop Kyle Walker-Peters from leaving if he wants to depart this summer.

Starting the season as Mauricio Pochettino's first-choice right-back due to a Serge Aurier injury, the right-back only appeared in one game under under the new head coach prior to his exit.

His St Mary's loan move didn't go to plan initially but he has since kicked on and is now impressing for Ralph Hasenhuttl's team since the restart.

Quizzed at his press conference about Walker-Peters' recent performances and his Spurs future, Mourinho opened up on the situation and also stressed that he's not in charge of transfers.

"Of course I follow, we don't have as many players on loan," he said on Walker-Peters. "It's not a very difficult job to follow what we have and being Premier League we follow.

"A future here, yes. But we always see a future outside where he can be happy. We didn't push him to go to Southampton.

"Tanganga injured, we only have Serge Aurier. He's a kid everyone loves here, Daniel Levy himself has special care for the player and he's here for years and years and years.

"So we let him go because we think he has the right to be happy. He's happy now I think. Playing and playing well.

"I'm not in control of the transfer decisions but the general feeling is there's a place for him here. But if his desire is to leave the club in search of happiness I don't think we'd stop him.

"He's a player with a good value in the market but I don't think we'd stop him doing it."
