Jose Mourinho makes Tottenham squad decision amid increasing pressure as Serge Aurier claim made

Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Saturday, February 6.

Tottenham tipped to replace Aurier

Former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Tottenham need to replace full-back Serge Aurier this summer.

“In the Spurs documentary [Mourinho] says to [Aurier]: ‘I don’t like you on set pieces, you’re going to make a mistake’," Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“Every time Aurier plays he seems to switch off. Whatever was said at half time was deserved because I thought he was dreadful in his defending against Liverpool.

“If he’s not taken that well I don’t blame Jose Mourinho for leaving him out.

“I’m sure Jose Mourinho will be looking for a long-term replacement for Aurier.”

Spurs confirm Premier League squad

Tottenham Hotspur have named their squad for the remainder of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

All 20 clubs from the top flight were required to submit their updated squad lists following the closure of the January transfer window earlier this week, with several deals being completed by no shortage of clubs during the four-week window.

Spurs, who suffered a third successive Premier League defeat on Thursday evening, losing 1-0 at home to Chelsea, were not one of them though.

The north London club did not add a single new face to the squad during the window, but a total of 13 players did leave the club, 10 of whom left on temporary loan deals.

Among those to head out on loan were goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who joined Elche FC, young midfielder Harvey White, who sealed a loan switch to League One side Portsmouth and Troy Parrott, who swapped Millwall for Ipswich Town on deadline day.

However, with no new arrivals, Spurs' 25-man squad does not feature any new names, with a total of 24 players making the cut.

Tottenham's four-man shortlist

The pressure is increasing on Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho suffered back-to-back home defeats for the first time in his managerial career as Spurs followed up defeat to Liverpool with a reverse against big rivals Chelsea on Thursday night.

Not only was it back-to-back defeats at home, it was Spurs third loss in a row, including the 1-0 defeat away at Brighton sandwiched between the two home losses.

Those results have left Spurs eighth in the Premier League table, with Aston Villa just a point behind with a game in hand, and Mourinho's side now trail the top four places by seven points - though they do have a game in hand on Liverpool, Leicester and Manchester United.

And Mourinho is now the 3/1 second favourite to be the next manager to leave with Bet Victor, with only Newcastle boss Steve Bruce ahead of him as the favourite.

According to Betfair, there is a four-man managerial shortlist to replace Mourinho if he gets the boot.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is the 2/1 favourite to replace him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although the Foxes would be reluctant to lose their man. A hefty payout would be required to steal him away from the King Power Stadium.

RB Leipzig's popular manager Julian Nagelsmann is next on the list at 4/1 and he would bring a progressive attacking approach to north London.

Rafael Benitez is 7/1 third favourite, with former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri at 9/1.
